First Budget under Chancellor John Healey. Watch for: the April 2027 uprating confirmation, any change to the triple lock, and any announcement on the timetable for State Pension age 68.

April 2027 uprating: 3.9% projected
Average earnings growth for May to July 2026 came in at 3.9%, above the 2.5% floor. Unless September CPI (published 21 October) is higher, the full new State Pension rises from £241.30 to about £250.70 a week in April 2027. Not confirmed until DWP's uprating statement after the Budget on 28 October 2026.

Full new State Pension £241.30 a week (was £230.25). Full basic State Pension £184.90 a week (was £176.45). Pension Credit standard minimum guarantee £238.00 single, £363.25 couple. Set by the earnings element of the triple lock.

State Pension age started rising from 66 to 67
Under the Pensions Act 2014 the rise is phased in by date of birth. Anyone born 6 April 1960 to 5 March 1961 gets a State Pension age between 66 years 1 month and 66 years 11 months. Anyone born 6 March 1961 or later: 67. The phasing runs until April 2028.

WASPI: ministers again reject compensation
After agreeing in late 2025 to reconsider its December 2024 refusal (settling a judicial review), the Government confirmed in March 2026 that it will not pay compensation to women born in the 1950s affected by State Pension age changes. The WASPI campaign says it will continue to pursue the Ombudsman's recommendation of £1,000 to £2,950 per person.

2026/27 rates confirmed in Parliament
Written ministerial statement by the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions set the April 2026 rates, including the 4.8% State Pension rise.

Third State Pension age review launched
Dr Suzy Morrissey leads an independent report on the factors government should consider when setting State Pension age; the Government Actuary's Department reports separately on life expectancy. The review will inform whether the rise to 68 (currently 2044 to 2046) is brought forward. The Pensions Act 2014 requires the next review report by March 2029 at the latest.

Second review: no change to the 68 timetable yet
The 2023 government report kept the legislated rise to 68 at 2044 to 2046 and said a further review would decide whether to bring it forward, with any change to be legislated with at least 10 years notice.
